Frequently Asked Questions

Is ACA accredited?
ACA is fully accredited by the Association of Classical and Christian Schools and the Texas Private School Accreditation Commission.

Are your teachers certified?
Many ACA teachers are certified but ACA does not view state certification as necessary for excellent teaching. ACA requires that all teachers possess a minimum of a Bachelors degree, a genuine love for children, the gift of teaching, a strong spiritual relationship with Christ, a robust biblical world and life view, and membership in good standing in a local expression of the body of Christ. In addition, all teaching faculty participate in on-going weekly in-house training through the Faculty Seminar and annual In-Service training and many receive special training at various teaching conferences and specialized training seminars.

Upon completion of the review of the application and reference forms and following the interview, applicants are notified of their acceptance status.

Is financial assistance available?
Yes, financial assistance is available, for students entering 1st - 12th grade, through our “need-based” Tuition Assistance Program. Families who desire financial assistance are encouraged to apply. All applications and decisions are handled confidentially by a third party outside of our offices. Applications are available in the school office and are due April 15 for the upcoming school year.

Can students who have not attended ACA in the elementary school years begin in junior high or high school?
Yes. Although it is preferred that a student receive the benefit of the full classical program K-12th, students are accepted at any grade level. It is the desire of the ACA administration and staff that efforts be made to work with incoming students in areas where they may not have had previous instruction such as Latin, Logic, etc. These types of situations are handled on an individual basis.

What are your class sizes?
Class sizes vary amongst grade levels ranging between 12 to 25 students. Generally, smaller class sizes are found in the lower grades and larger classes in the higher grades.

What curriculum do you use?
ACA uses a variety of published curriculum. A curriculum that fits a biblical worldview and incorporates the strengths from several quality publishers has been developed over the years. Phonics is used in the lower grades. Some distinctives include Saxon Math, Shurley Grammar, Latin, Greek, formal and informal logic, rhetoric, and theology.

Why do you teach Latin?
Annapolis Christian Academy views Latin as an integral part of its curriculum. Across the nation, studies have shown Latin to be effective in improving SAT scores. Latin students consistently out perform students of other foreign languages on the verbal portion of the SAT. Latin, because of its structure and alphabet (same as English) is very beneficial in the mastery of English grammar as well as vocabulary development. It has been estimated that for every year one studies Latin, 500 to 1000 new English words are gained. In addition, since all Romance languages derive from Latin, learning modern foreign languages like Spanish or French is much easier if one has studied Latin.

Do you have chapel? How often is it held?
Yes, students attend an inter-denominational chapel service once per week; however, each school day is begun with devotions in each classroom which consists of bible reading, prayer and pledges.

Do you have extra-curricular activities?
ACA offers a variety of extra-curricular activities that are designed to provide opportunities for students to develop character, build leadership skills, cultivate an attitude of servanthood, encourage social graces, and to gain an appreciation of culture.
